  • Periodic heavy CPU load on XP Pro

Every approx. 32 seconds, with no applications running, an hourglass blinks in a particular pattern. Task Manager shows that when the cursor blinks the CPU usage spikes to about 40%. I am running ZoneAlarm 6. Its icon shows network traffic. The traffic is when the cursor blinks.

I would appreciate any suggestions as to how I might diagnose what is causing the CPU activity.

The computer is a few months old. Windows Upgrade is running. It is networked with a computer running Windows 2000 (not Server). This computer is also a few months old.
