  • Cannot change offline file cache size

I'm working on a laptop and I wanted to increase the size of the offline file cache so I open the Folder Options, select the Offline Files tab and move the slider to where I want it for the "Amount of disk space to use for temporary offline files:"
I then click OK and then go right back into it and it's back were it was before.

I'm logged on with an administrator account. XP Pro SP2.

Anyone know why this happens and how I can fix it?
    Regards,

    Nevermind this post.

I thought you were running Vista and posted accordingly. Message deleted. :-/

Re: Cannot change offline file cache size

Thanks for the replay Nonapeptide. It seems there's a couple of facts you missed from my first post:
      1) I was adjusting the setting as an administrator
      2) This is on XP Pro SP2, not Vista

      EDIT - haha, no worries.

Nope, no policy. I should've mentioned I checked that. It's also not part of a domain.

I should also mention that I'm trying to make the cache size bigger than 2GB. Searching online it seems a lot of others are having the same issue. I was trying to look to see if this is the max size in XP but have not found anything from MS on it.

              Important
Before you begin Offline Files configuration, ensure that Fast User Switching is disabled on the client. To do so, open the Control Panel and select User Accounts. From the list of tasks presented, choose Change The Way Users Log On Or Off and clear the Use Fast User Switching check box.
Don't know if this is going to help or is applicable or not....

We are having the exact same problem,

when i set this as setting using a gpo the option is greyed out but it is still set to the default value rather then the one we set.

Re: Cannot change offline file cache size

Right i've been having a look at this and for some reason my system will not go past 17% of available disk space.

I've tried this on numerous systems and they all seem to be at 17%.

Wonders if this is an inbuilt limit in XP!!!!!!!!
