Re: copying files from windows to unix os

if there is an ssh service running on unix you can use pscp or winscp
if there is a samba service running - you can connect natively
if there is an nfs service running - microsoft machines can connect to that using unix tools
also there is ftp, http, aoe, iscsi... too many ways

      disk on key also works

depends on your linux distro... but most new releases should support ntfs reading... also you can format your disk on key with FAT.... should work

before connecting you disk on key to the BOX use:

      tail -f /var/log/messages
in case your Linux does not open and mount the disk on key automatically this will show you where it is and than you can mount it...

Did I understood wrong that the OP talks about Unix, and not Linux?

the tail command works in bash and ksh, so it doesn't matter
another thing to see, after the disk is detected: fdisk -l

maybe. sometimes users call all linux/unix OS's just UNIX
