We are also in the final stages of preparing for release to the web (i.e. you!) on April 29th, via Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center. Online documentation for Windows XP SP3, such as Microsoft Knowledge Base articles and the Microsoft TechNet Windows XP TechCenter, will be updated then. For customers who use Windows XP at home, Windows XP SP3 Automatic Update distribution for users at home will begin in early summer.
Thanks to everyone here who installed the public betas – you not only gave us detailed feedback but also helped each other out with timely troubleshooting. Through the beta program we found several important issues and were able to confirm some essential fixes. We couldn’t have done this without you.
We will still be monitoring this forum during the next few weeks in case you have more feedback about the release of Windows XP SP3.
On behalf of myself, Shashank Bansal and Windows Serviceability, many thanks.

    Re: XP SP3 RTMed

What does it have in it? Is it a huge paradigm change like SP2 was, or just a large roll-up of updates?

Some interesting new things in SP3 but the main thing I have noticed so far is that when you empty the Recycle Bin, it empties a lot faster than it used to.

                Re: XP SP3 RTMed

I just got XP SP3 as an update option in "Microsoft Update". Here are the details:

Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929)
                Date last published: 5/6/2008
                Typical download size: 66.9 MB

Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) is an update to Windows XP that addresses key feedback from our customers and is a cumulative update that includes all previously released updates for Windows XP, including security updates. Windows XP SP3 contains a small number of new updates and should not significantly change the Windows XP experience. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

                  Re: XP SP3 RTMed

its a biggy cause its supposed to have sp1 and sp2 included except you have to have sp1 installed for it to work and they recommend having sp2 already installed.hmmm.

xp runs even sweeter with it

using vista is nothing to boast about use 2008 as a workstation (disable the servers - its quicker stable and secure(ish) -reminises about nt) and patiently wait for Windows 7...
