  • very slow logon

    hi,

we have a AD forest with server 2003 SP2 and all clients are XP with SP2.

our problem is that the logons take a very long time, very often up to 5min.

does anyone have an idea why it takes so extremely long?

and how can i fix this problem?

    Check your DNS settings.

Make sure your clients point to your internal DNS server, this will NOT be your router.

Make sure your server points to itself for DNS resolution and if needed put forwarders on your DNS server.

If DNS is working fine then enable userenv logs to analize the point of delay.

      To enable userenv:

beware: GPO's can also slow down the logon procedure.

          Ya right..........

Above mentioned userenv logs also track the GPO processings hence delay as well caused by any GPO.
