  • CMD Problem in Windows XP SP2

Well I have Windows XP SP2 machine dual core system and 256 mb ram.
Here users are using the dos based software foxplus that runs in command prompt.
Yesterday it was working fine including command prompt and task manager.

    But today

when they click to command prompt nothing is happening means computer does not respond , even i can not see the task manager, it is disabled i don't no how. The users are in admin group but still task manager is disabled.
Then I logged in as a administrator but still command prompt is not opening. and also task manager is disabled. Except command prompt computer is working very fine all the task is working fine.
I go to run and then i type "CMD" but nothing is happening.

The dos based software's main (FOXPLUS) exe file is running means when i double click it is working fine. they(User) can work it

my question is why command prompt is not opening. ? and task manager is disabled any body hav idea ?
Whether this virus or not ?

Re: CMD Problem in Windows XP SP2

As far as task manager is concerned, see if it's enabled.
START-> RUN and then enter gpedit.msc.
    Select User Configuration
    Select Administrative Templates
    Select System
    Select Ctrl+Alt+Delete options
Check if remove task manager is disabled.

    You can also check registry.
    Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies \System
    Name: DisableTaskMgr
Value 0 means that task manager isn't disabled.

If it's all correct then check for virus.
It could be a virus problem.

      Dear all

No task manager is not disabled , you are right it might be virus problem because
both CMD and Task manager both have gone simultenusly
