  • How to use Broadband and Logon to domain easily on W2K workstation

    I have the following setup:

    Domain Name : mydomain.com

    Servers
    Win2K Domain Controller - 'dserver' (192.168.1.101)
    Win2k Additional Domain Controller & fileserver - 'fserver' (192.168.1.100)
    Subnet : 255.255.255.0

Broadband Router connected directly to Ethernet Switch
    IP : 192.168.1.1
    DNS Status is Enabled
    Primary DNS : 61.1.96.69
    Secondary DNS: 61.1.96.71

    Clients
    Win2k Professional
IP Addresses from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.20
    Subnet : 255.255.255.0
All the clients are member of mydomain.com
    Primary DNS - 192.168.1.101
    Secondary DNS - 192.168.1.100

    Proxy Server
    WinXPSP2 with two NICs
    Local Area Network 1
    IP - 192.168.1.99
    Subnet - 255.255.255.0
    Gateway - 192.168.1.1
    Primary DNS : 61.1.96.69
    Secondary DNS: 61.1.96.71

    Local Area Network 2
    IP - 192.168.1.98
    Subnet - 255.255.255.0
    Gateway - 192.168.1.101
    Primary DNS - 192.168.1.101
    Secondary DNS - 192.168.1.100
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Currently All the W2K Prof. machines are using proxy server for browsing Internet.

In order to use the Internet on a W2K workstation (which is also a member of domain) WITHOUT using Proxy Server I have to change the
    Gateway to 192.168.1.1
    Primary DNS : 61.1.96.69
    Secondary DNS: 61.1.96.71

After using the Internet, when I log off and log in again, the system takes a lot of time because it does not find domain controllerís ip address in primary DNS (as it was changed as mentioned above).

Please give me solution to this problem so that I can use internet without using proxy server and also logon to the domain easily.

    Thanks

    Sher

Is DNS set up OK on the server?
Are forwarders set up to the external DNS servers?

      G'day shersinghrawat,
configure ip address of prefered DNS server as 192.168.1.101 in local area connection properties of your W2K work station and in alternate dns server address define 61.1.96.69 address.
      cheers

Well I'm not sure what he would gain by doing that...

Shersinghrawat, I just want to confirm that the proxy server has both NIC connected to the same subnet?

But I think Tom is right, make sure your DNS servers have their root hints or that they're setup to forward requests to your ISP's DNS servers.
