  • Network down?

I have setup of Windows XP of 100 machines, It works fine, suddenly LAN stop working, means no machine can ping to any other machine. Then I restart one specific machine, now network is up, then I replace this specific machine s NIC. Now LAN is working fine.
Please tell me what was the reason behind it. Why one damaged NIC stop entire network.

    Re: Network down?

It could have been flooding the network with broadcast packets and prevented all other traffic.

A little more information would be helpful -- hubs or switches? subnetting? etc
