  • Printer can't print?

    hi,
recently ,I met a printer problem, I can't print from any of printers installed on my computer. some of them is network printers, some of them is directly connected with LPT1.
all the network printers are good(they can be printed from other computers, and from my computer,I can ping their IP addresses, and I can browse internet.).
and I installed a printer through LPT1, the installation is sucessful, and
it can't be printer too, I even restarted the spool service, it not work either.
I even install a printer through a shared prnter from other computer, the same , installation is successful, I can see the new printer is added in printers ,but just can't be print from it.
it looks something block the printing service, (I uninstalled my firewall and antivirus softeware already and windows firwall not enabled).
if someone have any idea, please let me know!
    thanks in advance!

    Re: Printer can't print?

What program are you trying to print from?
What error messages are you getting?
Does the Event Log show anything?
    What OS are you running?

        Re: Printer can't print?

Boot the PC without the printer connected. Then connect it after you log in, do you get a device found message?

Also is the printer greyed out in Printers ?

            Re: Printer can't print?

I presume you've checked all the obvious:
Printer can print internal test page?
            Cable OK?

Can you try printing text from the command prompt e.g.
            DIR C: > LPT1: (substitute LPT1 with your port)

it's in a workgroup, no permission setted up.

And slowly, more information is revealed. 8 posts and it is finally revealed that this is a workgroup and not a domain as inferred by the mention of network printers in the initial post.

I think maybe you should start from the beginning and this time provide ALL the necessary information about your setup.

How is your printer port configured in the BIOS (SPP/EPP/ECP -- should be ECP if available)?

Please refer to your first post. You specifically said the problem printer was connected to LPT1:

We are trying to help you but you persist in feeding us vital information in small bits and contradicting yourself. The event messages you posted do not appear to have anything to do with printers.

Questions to answer fully before I try anything more:
                        1) Do you have a printer physically connected (using a parallel cable -- thats the thick one with different plugs at each end) to the LPT port on your PC? If so:
                        2) What make and model is it?
                        3) Does it print an internal test page?
                        4) How is your LPT port configured in the PCs BIOS

                        Regardless of the above answers:
                        5) Please confirm you are in a workgroup environment and what permission you have on the PC
