  • Resolving host name of a IP address

    Hi guys

I would like to know how can find out which host name has a specific IP address?

The IP belong to a LAN to which I have only user access....to my computer as well. Is there a tool WinXP Pro, that allows me to resolve the IP?

    Thanx

    RS

    Open a command prompt:
    Code:
    C:\>ping -a <ip address>
    or
    Code:
    C:\>nslookup
    ><ip address>

Jermey is correct, those are the built in tools used to resolve IP address to hostname.

        Remember Sanvour,

For both of these to work you have to have a reverse DNS zones configured for your DNS namespace

Actually the ping -a can use netbios to resolve the name as well as DNS.
