  • Changed XP number - still complaining

    Hi!
I changed the number on an XP-pro, (the guy bought a new OEM license),
I changed acording to instructions involving changing registry keys and restarting the /MSOOBE.EXE /a.

All went ok, and it is now possible to go to MS update and update the system. But when when rebooting it still screams about a fake WindowsXP, "Why not buy an legal copy"? -- We just did!

It is a bit annoying, when we know thet we are using a legit serialnumber!

    What to do?

    Regards
    Berra

Actually, unless you are using the OEM version on hardware that came with it, it is not a legal installation. You need the buy the full version in that case.

But, I don't think the above accounts for the message you're getting. I'm not familiar with the procedure but others may be.

The computer - is it self built, or from an OEM? Is the key an XP PRO key?
