  • Cannot logoff

    Hello,

if I log on to my Win2k PC as normal user, everything is ok. But if I log on as administrator i cannot log off later. Even shutdown of the system is impossible. Everything else works fine. What can I do?

What happens when you try to log off or shutdown? Errors etc?
Have you checked the event log for entries related to shutdown?
Is a 3rd party application interferring - not closing?

Absolutely nothing happens. The system keeps running, no error messages, no error entries.

        - When you're logged in as Admin, close all programs you have running.
        - Press CTRL+ALT+DEL, Task List, Processes tab.
        - Sort the process by the user name and end each process that's running under the Administrator account.
        - Try to logoff/shutdown again.

        Does that work?

This might happen if the user (in your case Administrator) profile is corrupted or if the OS fails to unload user's registry hive (HKCU).

In both cases, deleting the user's profile and letting the OS create a new one on next logon usually helps.
