  • restrict administrative shares to a specific account

    hi all,
    i got to a new site whose PC's i didn't install myself.
the PCs are installed with XP PRO SP1.

when i try to access c$ using either IP or DNS name i get the normal prompt for username and password.

BUT, the problem is that in the username field i have one option grayed out (can not change the username): the guest account.

i can't use this account to access c$ since it doesn't have enough permissions.
does anyone have any idea what might have caused this?

your help will be much appriciated.
    thanks & regards,

    Gili.

I have had a similar issue way back, I think I resolved it by ensuring that all computers are in the same workgroup, but it has been a while........try it let us know.

Re: restrict administrative shares to a specific account

        hi guys,
        thanks for the replies.

        actually this issue was solved.
i simply added these computers to the domain and the problem was gone.

i think it might have been related to the security policies and that the domain policies got over it. but it's just a guess...nothing more...

anyway, thanks again for your help.
        have a nice weekend.

Re: restrict administrative shares to a specific account

Hey guys.. The issue is that the GPO Network Access - Share and Security model is not set to Classic Mode but its default guest only ... all you need to do is to click and change.. ... It usually deploy to restrict users to achieve any higher access rights..
