  • Laptop frozen at Windows XP screen with no login - Please help!

    Hello to All,

My daughter's laptop was working fine. She shut it down and powered it back on.

Now, it goes through the regular Windows XP boot up (BIOS, then black XP booting screen). After that, it gets to the Windows XP screen where the login would normally be prompted or, if no login is enabled, the desktop just comes up. At this point, it just freezes on this screen. I have attached a screenshot.

I am able to communicate with it over the network using remote control software and that is how I took the screenshot. Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing. I also booted it into safe mode and I get the same result.

This laptop is away at school so I do not have much local access to it other just giving instructions over the phone. I was amazed and miffed that I can see it via Internet remote control but still not do anything with it.

    Any suggestions?? Please help!

    Thanks,
    David

Obvious I know, but have you talked her through using Last Know Good?
    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2

      Hi Biggles,

Sometimes the most obvious is the best solution....

I will try this next. Thanks for your help!

        Also try Ctrl+Alt+Del quickly twice.

If i remember correctly this will bypass the Welcome screen and take you to a login box.

From there you can then disable the welcome screen.

I'll double check these facts though.

CTRL+ALT+DEL+DEL (press the DEL key twice) is the sequence. Will try and replicate it in the morning and see if we can find a soltion.

Thanks Biggles & wullieb1 for your assistance!

Unfortunately, I didn't have any luck trying any of these solutions and I am having her ship the laptop back to me. I will probably just reinstall Windows but first I will try some of these things myself.

            Have a good day!
