    1. It is prefered that you install windows XP with SP1 which will accept your OEM. After instalation you can update to SP2.

    2. If you cannot find WinXP with SP1, you can install with SP2 and than read article in this link:

      Re: xp sp1

If you have a COA that came with XP SP1 OEM version CD then there is no reason why it will not work with XP SP2 OEM version CD. After all, if you initially purchased XP (no SP) and slipstreamed a SP onto it, then number on the COA will still work.

However if you have an OEM version then the key on the COA sticker will not work with a VLK XP CD.

          Buggerlugz,

Next time make sure you choose a proper topic for your thread.

Also, I wouldn't rush to install XP over ME. ME is a bad, very bad OS, you will have more problems than you think in the long run. Backup anything you need, format and reinstall.

Last thing - if you have a CD key for one OS version (OEM) but you need to install a different OS version, then you're breaking the EULA, and that's considered ilegal.

I have loaded the SP2 disc and during the setup swopped the disc over for the number then after the number has registered then swopped it again so it keeps loading SP2. It worked. Otherwise swop with Keyfinder. Alstar

                Trust me
Istall disc SP2 and instll up to requirement of SP1 key. Put key in and hit enter!
then Micro will ask for SP2 disc again.
Put SP2 disc in again and hit enter
XP loade with SP2 edition and with SP1 Key.
Worked for me now 4 times? Help

As far as i know COA keys are NOT service pack dependant.

If you have the correct version of XP then it will install regardless of SP level.
