Surprisingly good performance for the spinning rust, under the circumstances

Not too shabby for a 6 year old laptop either.

Wished I haded a 7,200rpm drive so I could compare that as well. I remember when the 3½" 7,200rpms became more available, it was stated that there was a 35% performance increase over the 5,400rpm drives.

There is a famous story in which the Kaiser asks Bismarck, “Can you prove the existence of G-d?” Bismarck replies, “The Jews, your majesty. The Jews.”

Was the HDD a mechanical (spinner) or an SSD?

              VHD on an i7-3540M / 16GB / Samsung EVO840 SSD (I think, either way it's an SSD)

              bootup: 18 seconds to logon
logon takes longer - almost an additional 20 seconds, but it's going through the OOBE

Is that relevant in some way because, in general use, I've found the drive to be very good?

                Keke
No, not a comment on the drive. I have a 1TB SSHD on my main laptop though I may change back to my 750GB SSHD since it spins faster than the 1TB.

The reason for asking was to keep a common thread of what drive types were like during boot and shutdown. Obviously an SSHD will be faster than a plain old spin drive but slower than an SSD. Just want to compare apples to apple and tamarillos to tamarillos so an even comparison can be made.
