  • New Years Certification goals

Do you have any certification goals in the new year? Post them hear! We'll see how you do in twelve months.

    Here's mine:
I'd like to take at least 5 exams this year.
MCITP:EMA (I have all three exams to take: 70-236, 70-237 70-237. It's quite a different thing to take exams when you're actually working on the technology. )
MCITP: EA (One exam to go: 70-643)
At least one non-Microsoft exam: CCNA, Red Hat something and Linux+ are of interest to me.

I'm not interested in upgrading to the Windows 7 desktop technician certs because it's not really relevant to my job and I don't need that clout on a resume. I have SQL Server DBA MCITPs (2005 and 2008 ) that are unfinished, but since I don't do too much with it in real life, I don't want to be over-certified. I really need to learn more gritty networking information and design so I figured Cisco certs would be a decent goal as I plow through some books. Linux, as always, would be nice to know more about and a pretty piece of paper to go along with the knowledge is a plus. If I finally get to use virtualization in production, I'd start going for a VMWare cert too.

    Only 360 days, 7 hours, 50 minutes until 2011!

    Re: New Years Certification goals

My target is 5 as well.

    70-293 and 298 (Finish MCSE)
3 MCITP: EA exams to upgrade.

What work require may take precedence though, so there are possibilities of Exchange 2007/2010 or maybe upgrade my ISA cert to TMG. Things like VMWare and Cisco are under the category of "Nice to Have" for the time being.

CCSP (or parts of it), MCITP: DBA, JNCIS -FWV, CISSP, VMware and oh well I'll see...

CPL renewal and a M/E I/R, Class 1. Possibly also a BGT Rating.
        1 1 was a racehorse.
        2 2 was 1 2.
        1 1 1 1 race 1 day,

Well, I posted goals last year and ended up with a big fat zero, so probably best if I dont plan anything this time around....

              None.

Will try and get a VMware course organised by work but i doubt they'll pay for it.

For the very near future: MCITP:EST (MS Vista)
Then upgrade to MCITP:EA (MS Server 2008 )

                  And then... We will see

For some Engineers focussing on the desktop (and users) could be the way to go. A lot of basic administrating work on servers is "heading east".

Well that is good news. You can't get much further East than me, or is that too Far East?

You're so far East, you're closer to West.

                        LOL That's way too far!

Well, to be more specific: a lot of (server admin) work is shifting to e.g. Poland/India.
More soft skills are expected from the onshore admins/engineers.

Poland?! That's a new one on me. So now I have a choice between speaking to Krish-Kumar or Igor? I'll have to brush up on my Polski. I do enjoy a good plate of pierogi, though.

A trip to the surgeon on Tuesday just scuttled this option for the next 18 months.
