  • well that was fun.

back in May, I purchased a two-exam pack (with free 2ndshots! and 15% discount!) while in the UK.
I sat an upgrade exam, and merrily went on my way. As the year drew to a close, and our plan to come home solidified, I ran out of time to do another exam.

I tried to book something for Febuary ish, and couldn't, it told me my voucher wasn't valid. ??? WTF???
SO I called Prometric, to find out when it expired. The utterly useless girl told me "it's not valid because you bought it in the UK so you can't use it in australia"
I have subsequently found that is not true.

I booked an exam for today, being basically the last day in 2011 that I could do the exam. I didn't really expect to pass it, but felt that SBS2011 would be the best optionfor me at present. At very least, I could then use my 2nd shot some time in the new year, with more idea of what I needed to study on.

Anyway.. I was paranoid I would show up today, and have the test center say "prometric cancelled it your voucher wasn't valid"
No. that all went well. In I went, at 8:45, for my 9am exam.
So that's a nice, big FKU to prometric, for trying to screw me out of something I paid you for.. I won. And if I didn't, I would have reversed the charge on my credit card, because you failed to provide the service I paid for, and referred me to terms and conditions that are no longer available.

Anyway. I sat down at 8:45,ish. Out I walked, at 9:35, with a score of 841.
Not a stunning outcome.. but a pretty good effort, considering I haven't done any training for this particular exam, and the only experience I have with SBS is doing one remote install (talked a guy through it over the phone) and one in-person install. (All in the past 2 weeks)

Long winded way to say, I am now Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist: Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard, Configuring.

It's slower than my blackberry, and that's really saying something.

    Congrats. Here's my opinion:

    1. It doesn't matter how you achieve it as long as you do it fairly and honestly, with integrity.

    2. A pass by 1 point or 100 points is a pass.

On both items I say well done to you.

Good job! I always take any score above 800 as good enough. =)

So, not to be a pest, but what is your plan for 2012? Any other MCITPs? Perhaps the Exchange variety?

You typed that on your smart phone didn't you.

I had an interview today and I'm thinking that Exchange has to be my new major focus for 2012. Who knows, maybe MCM? Anyway, time to buckle down and start to become an expert in a few areas rather than a generalist in all.

Are you hoping to be that kind of generalist in your business or perhaps focus keenly on a few products like perhaps SBS and Sonicwall or some such thing? Seems like, at least in my experience, if I didn't focus on a small set of things, it was very easy to get lost in the flow and overlooked.

Nice one, have a wee Christmas dram to celebrate!

I've had similar issues with Prometric and MS in the past where they've "liberally" applied their own rules in order to not redeem a voucher for me. It's gotten worse since Prometric became the sole provider, Pearson VUE seemed to keep them honest.

no, I typed it on Rhiannon's smartphone. It'd be way worse on mine.

I have considered MCM as a path.. but I think my focus for now is more on developing a business.. maybe in future... I'm hoping to focus business mainly on small businesses, so SBS and Windows 7 for now..
The exchange part of the exam is the part I got the 2nd strongest score in.. and I beleive that's because It's something I'm genuinely interested in

This. I honestly want there to be another vendor. It's a shame there isn't.

Interestingly.. I looked at my transcript the other day and found that basically every test center I've ever been to, is now closed down.
                  I don't get it.
