  • Regarding MCTS Certification??

    Hi Everyone,

Ive bought the CBT nuggets and Trainsignal all parts of the MCTS which are "exam 70-640
    TS: Windows Server 2008 Active
    Directory, Configuring
    exam 70-642
    TS: Windows Server 2008 Network
    Infrastructure, Configuring
    exam 70-643
    TS: Windows Server 2008
    Applications Infrastructure,
    Configuring
    exam 70-680
    TS: Windows 7, Configuring
    exam 70-681
    TS: Windows 7, Deploying
    Windows and Office 2010
. I have no experience about this so i wanted to ask few questions you or someone who already has finished this.
Question 1: Is it enough if i train myself with all those training movies ive got or do i need more stuff?
Question 2: When i want to get certified will i need to finish a test for each one for example : is it only one test and i get certified or do i have to finish a test on each training part like one for the windows 7 deploy, anotherone for win 2008 Application infrastructure etc?
Can you also explain me where can i get some free tests to check myself if im ready to go to the real certification test?

    Thanks so much people

    Re: Regarding MCTS Certification??

each test is an exam, and a certification, by itself.

So if you sit 70-640 you will be:
Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist: Windows Server 2008, Active Directory Configuration

You would then sit 70-642 and be:

Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist: Windows Server 2008, Network Infrastructure Configuration
    in addition to the above
    (*Wording may be slightly different.)

each exam normally costs me about $190 Australian Dollars, and exams are only provided through Prometric.com at their testing centres.
Every now and again, you can find people floating around on these forums with "second-shot" vouchers and similar - if you fail that particular exam, you can use your 2ndshot to do the same exam again for free..

All of this works in conjunction, so once you have, for instance, 70-642, 70-640, 70-648 and 70-680 (I think it's that combination) you become MCITP: SA
You would have to confirm the exact path at http://microsoft.com/mcp

Personally, I beleive it used to be enough that you could read the MSPress training manual, or watch a CBT Nugget video etc, and have enough knowledge to pass the exam, however they are getting much better at their exams.

What you'll find in the exams is lots of real-world situations, and it'll throw technologies, solutions and ideas at you that won't have been covered in the training material.

What I'm getting at here is, I beleive that real-world experience is neccessary to support the video/book/lab training.

I'm not sure where you can get free check if you're ready, but you could consider buying some Transcender prep kits?
