  • Passed 70-290

Got in the office last friday, My boss decided to book this exam for me out the blue (i wanted it in the midle of november really)

Was told just to go for it, see how i get on (was my first exam)

And ive passed, with a score of 840.

Fairly good i think, was a fairly easy exam, and with the experiance i have (9yrs or so) alot of the items ive previously covered over the yrs.

Was based on 30 questions with 6 simulations.

Next step is the 70-291, any advice?

    Congratulations
For 70-291, know your TCP/IP and DNS well as you are very likely to get one or the other
Also DHCP, WINS and (W)SUS a bit

      Sounds easier enough then really,

Ive been working with Cisco Kit alot recently and have a good understanding how TCP/IP, DHCP and dns etc work.

Just need to find a quicker way to figure subnetting out on paper, lol.

How thoughtful. Does he exhibit this characteristic in any of his other dealings? At any rate, well done and good job keeping your wits about you in spite of the shock.

            Re: Passed 70-290

Nice one. 291 is probably the hardest of the 2003 exams (I've passed 270, 290 and 294) and as mentioned DNS, TCP/IP, DHCP etc are the major focus of 291.

I found 70-291 more easily then 70-293 (or was it 70-294).
Just follow Tom's advice. However I didn't have any subnet questions in contrary with 70-216 which I failed twice (6 years ago).

              Anyway Congrats and enjoy it.

                Lets see what happens.

Ive asked if they could book the exam anywhere in the first 2 weeks of december, this should give me enough time to finish reading up etc.

                Ill keep you all informed.

                  Re: Passed 70-290

From a number of my students who have taken 291, you tend to get either a lot of TCP/IP and a bit of DNS or the other way around. But know both:
                  TCP/IP
                  Subnetting
                  Supernetting / CIDR
                  Routes (including costs)

                  DNS
                  Forward / Reverse lookup zones
                  Sub zones

Remember, especially with a cisco background, that you are in the microsoft world now :evillaugh:

Oh, did I mention RRAS -- the worst (IMHO) part of the exam

Oh, forgot about that. As I recall it was the configuring RRAS topic that I failed on, sat it about 3 years ago and haven't so far got around to having another go.
