  • MCSE 70-290 SUS Question - Help

    Hi All,

The question is from Microsoft 70-290 preparation book

    2. You are the systems administrator for a medium-sized organization that is considering implementing SUS on all Windows XP Professional workstations and Windows Server 2003 systems companywide. Before a companywide rollout
is to go ahead, a pilot program is to be implemented. You have been assigned a lab with 10 Windows XP Professional workstations, a Windows Server 2003 member server running SUS, a Windows Server 2003 domain controller, and a
stand-alone Windows Server 2003 system. You wish to configure all systems except the server running SUS to use the SUS server to automatically check for, download, and install updates at 7:00 A.M. each day. Which of the following steps
should you take to do this? (Choose all that apply.)

    A. Use the Automatic Updates tab in the System console from Control Panel on every Windows XP Professional workstation computer to set the update server to the address of the SUS server. Set the Windows XP workstations to automatically download and install updates at 7:00 A.M. each day.

    B. Use the Automatic Updates tab in the System console from Control Panel on each Windows Server 2003 system except the SUS server to set the update server to the address of the SUS server. Set these servers to automatically download and install updates at 7:00 A.M. each day.

    C. Place the Windows XP Professional workstations and the Windows Server 2003domain controller in a separate OU
named Uptest. Edit a GPOs Windows Update properties for the Uptest OU, specifying the address of the update server as
the SUS server in the Specify Intranet Microsoft Update Service Location policy. Set Configure Automatic Updates
Policy to automatic download and install and set the scheduled install day to Every Day and the time to 7:00 A.M. Apply
this GPO to the Uptest OU.

    D. On the stand-alone Windows Server 2003 system, edit the local GPOs Windows Update properties, specifying the
address of the update server as the SUS server in the Specify Intranet Microsoft Update Service Location policy. Set
Configure Automatic Updates Policy to automatic download and install and set the scheduled install day to Every Day and the time to 7:00 A.M. Apply this GPO to the Uptest OU.

    E. On the SUS server, edit the local GPOs Windows Update properties, specifying the address of the update server as the SUS server in the Specify Intranet Microsoft Update Service Location policy. Set Configure Automatic Updates Policy to automatic download and install and set the scheduled install day to Every Day and the time to 7:00 A.M. Apply this GPO to the Uptest OU.

    the answer is C & D

in D. It says apply this GPO to the Uptset OU, How? if it's not part of the doman? It's a local GPO (Please help me understand)

    Thanks,
    Yosi

Re: MCSE 70-290 SUS Question - Help

    By elimination:
A is out because you cannot set a WSUS server in the update tab (only through regedit or group policy)

B is out for the same reason

E would apply the updates to the WSUS server only, the opposite of the result you want

C & D are valid but as you say, the last sentence of D is not applicable. I suspect a copy and paste went wrong. If you check the book, there is an email ([email protected]) for editorial glitches, so why not tell them -- remember to cite the books ISBN, page and everything else relevant

      Yosi,

What is the ISBN of your book? I believe the 290 exam looks at WSUS.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure if I just didn't understand or it was a typo.

It's from the book Exam 70-290 "Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environmrnt" ISBN 0-7356-1437-7 from Microsoft Press.

        I'll let them know.

Whenever you have questions about the accuracy of MS Press books you can go to http://support.microsoft.com and punch in the ISBN number into the search. It will bring up a KB article if there's any corrections.
