  • MCSE Test order?

Hi, I've recently started studying "again" for my MCSE and wondered if there was a preferred order to study for / take the tests?

I wanted to get my MCSA then move along to MCSE using Exchange as an elective.

I was going to take 70-291 first because I know the most about it already but after reading how close the 70-293 is to it, I figured I'd take 70-291 as my last MCSA exam and 70-293 as my first MCSE test.

    70-270 - XP
    70-290 - 2003 Server
    70-284 - Implementing -Managing Exchange
    70-291 - Implementing and Manaing a 2003 Network

    These 4 complete my MCSA

    70-293 - Planing and Maintaining a 2003 Network
70-294 - Planning and implementing Active Directory 2003
    70-291 - Designing a 2003 Network Infractructure

Anyone see anything I should watch out for in my order of things?

The only thing I see wrong with it is that you're taking the 70-291 test twice but somehow, magically, the name changed

I guess you mean 70-297. Looks good to me. In my experience 70-291 was the most difficult for me (failed it twice), but I feel that I'm strong it that area (maybe 'cause I studied for the test three times), and 293 I breezed through...IIRC.

Looks good to me -- design exam last and a good choice for the elective
You might want to take 291 straight after 290 as they follow logically from one to the other.

270, 290 291 save your elective for last.

291 is one of the toughest of the series, DNS and RRAS is heavily weighted on that exam so make sure you pay extra attention to those 2 topics.
The sooner you take the 291 the better!

2007 is bringing some major changes to include WSUS replacing SUS questions, SCW and WiFi design concept questions are also likely to appear.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll take the elective last and pay close attention to DNS / RRAS (RRAS being the area that I have no work experience with, I find it the most intersting so far).

JeremyW, I figured I'd just take the 291 2x make it easier on myself

I also took the 70-293 after passing the 70-291.

There is a lot of overlap in exam material.

I also did the 70-299 after passing the 70-293.

It sure helps to check out the exam requirements before planning the order in which to take them.

m80arm ... Funny you should say that..
I already scheduled my 70-290 for the 12/4/2006 I'd take it a week sooner but I'm going out of town for the holiday.

10 years of supporting MS, the amount of studying I have to do is pretty slim.. the 70-290 + 70-291 "shouldn't" be be too difficult, I was more worried about failing the 70-270.

                        WEEE!

Passed the 70-290 2003 Server Exam today... (not posting the score, it wasn't pretty, but that doesn't matter )

                        Code:
                        ** Completed 11/13/2006 -- 70-270 - XP
                        ** Completed 12/4/2006 -- 70-290 - 2003 Server
                        70-291 - Implementing and Manaing a 2003 Network
                        70-284 - Implementing -Managing Exchange
                        These 4 complete my MCSA

                        70-293 - Planing and Maintaining a 2003 Network
70-294 - Planning and implementing Active Directory 2003
                        70-291 - Designing a 2003 Network Infractructure
I have to take some time off of the exam track. I'm going to have to spend my normal study time learning MOM because its going in at work and I'm going to play a large part in it.
